January 2023

Steve Harvey Virtual Mentoring Program

The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Virtual Mentoring Program is a monthly initiative held every Saturday via Zoom. 100 boys ages 13-19, come together from various locations, including both the United States and international locations. The sessions involve check-ins with mentors, featuring different successful speakers each month. Each month, boys have the chance to engage with guest speakers by asking them questions. An additional incentive is the opportunity to attend the boys camp for those with good attendance. Overall, the program aims to provide valuable mentorship and insights to young boys, fostering personal development and growth.

100 Girls of Code

The Harvey Foundation was happy to support 100 Girls of Code for their 2023 programs for another year. They had workshops every 4th Saturday from 10AM to 12PM at various locations. The workshops were facilitated by women who are experts in their fields. They also played Esports including Among Us, Fortnite, Smash Bros, and more. Further, they held their annual STEM Camp which was a full house for another year! The girls immersed themselves in the various sciences, forms of technology, engineering, and mathematical projects.

Girls Who Rule The World
Mentoring Camp

The 2023 Girls Who Rule The World Mentoring Camp was the first event to be held at the new Steve and Marjorie Legacy Ranch. More than 100 young girls across the country were treated to a weekend of mentoring, enrichment, and life-changing experiences. 

The speakers for the weekend included Caroline Wanga – CEO of Essence Magazine, Dr. Jackie of Married to Medicine, Monique Rodriguez Founder of Mielle, Recording Artist and Actress Brave Williams, Meaghan Leonard of BlackRock, Cynthia Bailey – model and cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Dr. Raven Alexander – Orthodontist, Courtney Gower – Professional Makeup Artist, Lola Elliot – Clinical Psychologist, Lavaille Lavette – Publisher and Author, Sydnie Chandler Monet – young entrepreneur and podcast host, teen STEM Enthusiast Temple Lester and to their surprise – Steve Harvey. The young women had other activities including a dance class led by Brittany Fleet, Fishing led by US Fish and Wildlife Service, Gaming Trucks, and two parties with sounds by DJ XO. 

On Sunday night, the ladies went for an overnight visit to the Georgia Aquarium. They also received a surprise visit from model and influencer Lori Harvey. 

This event was Presented by sponsors Mielle and Puma. Other sponsors included Baller Alert, Chick-fil-A, and Coca-Cola. The weekend was a testament to the heart of Steve and Marjorie Harvey and their commitment to enriching the lives of young people across the country. All the young women went back full and ready to take on the globe.

Renew Today - ‘WeDeliverPeriod' Impact Fellowship

The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation was happy to support the ‘WeDeliverPeriod’ Impact Fellowship. This program empowered social entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa through leadership development training. The Impact Fellows, hailing from 10 different countries in sub-Saharan Africa, all stated that they experienced an improvement in their confidence as leaders and increase in their sense of connection to fellow social entrepreneurs. Beyond personal growth, the Impact Fellowship contributes to a broader societal impact by addressing menstrual health challenges in African countries. Notably, the initiative aids in keeping girls in school, particularly in South Africa. The program has not only raised awareness but has also created a platform for building a network of innovative young individuals dedicated to reshaping the narrative around women’s health in Africa.

National Basketball Wives Association Hashtag Lunchbag Event

The Harvey Foundation was proud to sponsor the National Basketball Wives Association’s annual event at the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah. The NBWA worked with #HashtagLunchbag to help distribute 1,200 meals to families in need throughout the area.

Musiq Soulchild and Utopian Academy Recording Session

The Harvey Foundation worked with Musiq Soulchild to help Middle School students at the Utopian Academy write and record a song at Layers Studio in Atlanta, Georgia. Under the award-winning artists’ guidance, students could lay down vocals and add finishing touches to their song which they will sing at their graduation in May.

Next Step Education:
College Readiness Bootcamp

We were excited to partner again with the Next Step Education Foundation for the Spring 2023 College Readiness Bootcamp.  This event is designed to guide high school students with tips and advice regarding post-secondary enrollment and scholarships. Students and their parents participated in several mini-workshops designed to give college-bound families as much information as possible. The sessions covered college selection, major selection, financing, test preparation, campus experience, and social & emotional well-being.

Project I AM

Project I AM celebrated its 7th Anniversary with the ‘Path to Purpose Summit’ in Chicago, Illinois. The Youth Panelists included Jahkil Jackson, DJ Annie Red, MJ Hill, Avery Kelley, and Khloe Thompson.

They spoke about Finding Your Passion, Your Purpose, Creating Goals, and staying true to yourself. The summit hosted over 500 students who received ‘Path to Purpose’ wristbands and stress balls and contest winners received Path To Purpose shirts.

Regal Theatre: Giving Hope Film Premiere

We were happy to partner with the Girls Who Brunch Tour and Lifetime to host the Atlanta screening of ‘Giving Hope: The Ni’cola Mitchell Story.’ 250 young women, parents, and the community enjoyed the film about the Girls Who Brunch Tour founder, starring Tatiana Ali. There was a red carpet and Loreal also had giveaways for all in attendance.

Microsoft Experience with Project Swish

In April, we were able to help longtime partner Project Swish bring 20 of their students to Atlanta for a week full of enrichment activities that ended with a trip to the Microsoft Offices. Students attended different sessions that included coding, announcing, and audio production in the Microsoft state-of-the-art recording studio, game creation, and more. Students also received giveaways and made keychains in Microsoft’s ‘Garage’ – an innovative creative space for special projects

Steve Harvey Charity Golf Classic

The 2023 Steve Harvey Golf Classic celebrated 15 years of healthy competition for a great cause. Golfers from across the country came out to help raise over one hundred dollars for the annual Steve Harvey Mentoring Camp for young men. There were 2 days of activities with great food, vendors, giveaways, live music, and much more.

Steve Harvey Mentoring Camp

The camp was an extraordinary experience for all involved. It provided dynamic speakers and impactful mentorship and offered a range of activities that contributed to the holistic growth of the young men. Through outdoor activities like fishing, paddle boating, sports and other experiences, the participants had the opportunity to connect with nature, develop new skills, and build resilience. In addition to these activities, the camp emphasized the importance of education and exposure. Various workshops, educational sessions, and career exploration opportunities were provided to broaden the horizons of the young men, ignite their curiosity, and inspire them to pursue excellence and future success.

Entertainment Tonight goes Behind the Scenes at Harvey Legacy Ranch

On the first day of the Boys camp, Entertainment Tonight interviewed our founder, Steve Harvey, and a few camp alumni – Torren Calhoun, Brett Harris and Kendall who are now doing amazing in their fields. Kevin Frazier and the camera crew filmed the boys coming off the bus and getting ready for a weekend they would never forget.

Big 3 Tournament Championship Games

We believe exposure is important in a child’s life, therefore, we collaborated with Quiana Montgomery of Q Connects and took 50 students to see the Big 3 Championship games in Washington, DC! Students watched basketball legends from across the country compete for the coveted title. They also enjoyed live music from entertainers like NBA Youngboy, local artists,gm and more.

Next Step Education College Fair

In a significant milestone, the Next Step Education Foundation recently hosted its 10th Annual College, Career and Services Fair, led by their Executive Director, Brannon Jones. In the 10-year history, this event has seen over 200 students receive on-the-spot college acceptances and scholarship offers totaling over $6.5 million! This initiative, backed by the unwavering support of the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, speaks volumes about the concerted efforts towards aiding students in their crucial high school to college transition.

Empowering Minds of Maryland Youth (EMMY) Suitcase Drive

The Harvey Foundation was happy to support EMMY’s 6th Annual Suitcase Drive! The event helped provide foster care youth with quality luggage to use as they travel from home to home, instead of transporting their personal items in trash bags. Individuals donated several new suitcases at the event. Empowering Minds of Maryland’s Youth’s mission is to empower children with life skills through mentoring, learning experiences and artistic outlets.

Girls Who Rule The World Dance Camp

During the Fall Break in Atlanta, Georgia, Alumni from the 2023 ‘Girls Who Rule the World’ Retreat came to daily dance classes at Brittany Fleet Studios. Girls learned proper stretching techniques, Modern and Ballet dance routines, and more. Girls from all levels of dance helped each other out and built friendships through the arts.

Sapphire Miriam Foundation
Caribbean Catch Up

For the 3rd year, the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation joined the Sapphire Miriam Foundation for an inspirational conversation with their students from all over the Caribbean. It was a powerful session where women from the SMHF team shared their stories and lessons they learned on their journeys to success. Executive Director Ms. Sharon Page brought an all-star line up of support with Madison Burns (Program Coordinator), Mia Hall (Director of Programs), Kenya Nicole (Social Media Manager) and the 2022 returning Curlinista herself Lexi P!

Fund II Foundation

The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation was honored to support Robert Smith and his Fund II Foundation in partnership with Black Maternal Health Equity in Puerto Rico as they advanced the education of Black Maternal Health through community and education! Yaadira Brown, Howard University Hospital – OBGYN Resident, and Michelle Smith, Dillard University, are the grant recipients whom we supported as they continue to advance the mission to accelerate and sustain healthy Black births. Black Women must stop dying as they give birth and Marjorie Harvey is committed to and passionate about this cause.

College Gurl Tour

The Annual Fall College Gurl tour provided 26 Black DMV high school students in 10th-12th grade the opportunity to dream bigger than their zip code and become the next future leaders of tomorrow. Because of The Harvey Foundation, they were able to provide students a life-changing opportunity to visit Elon University, Winston-Salem State University, Johnson C. Smith University, ATL City Hall, Clark Atlanta University, Tyler Perry Studios, and a SpelHouse Homecoming game.

Celebrity Topgolf Toy Drive

The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation hosted a toy drive at Topgolf in Atlanta to support Atlanta’s Youth and our scholarship fund. The night of giving was hosted by Kier ‘Junior’ Spates of the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Celebrities and other influential leaders in Atlanta such as New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Jamal Bryant, TV and radio icon Free Marie Wright, TV personalities Cynthia and Malorie Bailey were among those in attendance, all coming together to give back. The event helped to raise funds for scholarships and helped us provide toys for underserved children in metro Atlanta. We partnered with Hosea Helps and the YMCA.

Save A Girl, Save A World

We were happy to support Save A Girl, Save A World as they brought almost 100 girls to the campus of Clark Atlanta University for a weekend full of amazing educational and motivational sessions, dancing, and more! Thanks to our partners Chick-Fil-A, Shea Butter and more, we were able to give each girl a gift bag to take home with them.

Mothers Enrichment Summit

This year’s Mother’s Enrichment Summit was filled with fun, food, and much more. Our speakers were inspirational and informative as they spoke about their journey and gave guests advice on how to overcome any obstacles that may come their way. Thanks to sponsors such as Dr. Lipman, S & P Global, and Chick-Fil-A, moms enjoyed a day of learning, a catered lunch, as well as beautiful gift bags. Hosted by Mikki Taylor, the event welcomed speakers Dr. Heavenly, Tameka Foster-Raymond, Deanna Hamilton, Brandi Harvey & Karli Harvey Raymond, Joi Carter, Michelle Marshall, Barkue Tubman, Sonja Galyon-Kamonika and Thais Mills.

Martin Lawrence Holiday Event

During the Season for giving, we were grateful to support 100 kids with Martin Lawrence for Christmas. The children received everything on their Christmas lists including bikes, scooters, and iPads, and at the end, they received more free gifts and outerwear! Martin Lawrence is a true hero and we are grateful for his heart for service.

Tech Boy on The Jennifer Hudson Show

The Jennifer Hudson show flew DeJuan “DJ” Strickland to Los Angeles to recognize him for raising over $15,000 to eliminate school lunch debt for students at his former elementary school. DJ initiated Team Tech Boy Lunch Heroes after facing food insecurity in his youth and is dedicated to making sure students have access to nutritious lunches. In recognition of his generous efforts, Jennifer surprised DJ with an extra $5,000 from PLEZi Nutrition! Additionally, DJ, who is also an author of several comic books, actively participates in a monthly virtual mentoring program.

Scholarship Saturday

The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation held a Virtual Scholarship Saturday event to offer valuable scholarship information and resources to aid students’ academic journeys.

This event was in collaboration with Next Step Education, which has granted millions of dollars in scholarships. Executive Director Brannon Jones gave students essential information on various scholarship opportunities tailored for high school and college students. They also learned from a college advisor and 2 of our current Harvey Scholars Madison Burns and Torren Calhoun.

Harvey Legacy Ranch Holiday Giveaway

During Christmas weekend, the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Legacy Ranch gave out fresh produce and meat to Thomaston locals. Guests received fresh greens, carrots and broccoli plus ground beef, chicken and more. SMHF was happy to support the community that has welcomed the Legacy Ranch with open arms this holiday season.

Hosea Helps Annual Christmas Event

The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation generously contributed to Hosea Helps’ annual Christmas event at the Georgia World Congress Center providing hundreds of toys for children throughout the Greater Metro Atlanta area. The event featured a warm Christmas meal, photos with Santa, complimentary haircuts and various activities for a joy filled holiday for all the children that attended.
